Cellulite is a source of frustration for many women. Dimples on your thighs and buttocks, even if you’re at a healthy weight, can leave you feeling self-conscious in shorts, swimwear, or even fitted clothing. At Dermatology Associates of Rochester, we understand your frustration. That’s why we’re excited to offer Avéli, a groundbreaking cellulite treatment that delivers significant, lasting results.

Understanding Cellulite: It’s Not Just About Fat

Many women have cellulite, and it’s not necessarily a sign of being overweight. The bumpy, cottage-cheese appearance is caused by fibrous bands called septae that tether the skin to underlying fat. As fat pushes against these bands, it creates the dimpled effect. So, while losing weight can improve overall body composition, it won’t always minimize cellulite.

What Is Avéli Treatment Like?

This minimally invasive procedure targets individual dimples, providing immediate results by releasing the septae responsible for the dimpled appearance. Here’s how the Avéli procedure works:

  • Preparation: The treatment begins with your provider marking the targeted dimples while you stand.
  • Local Anesthetic: You’ll then lie face down, and a local anesthetic will be applied to minimize discomfort.
  • Treatment: A small incision is made, and the Avéli device is inserted. The device’s lighted tip guides the provider to each dimple. The septae are released using the device’s retractable blade, eliminating the dimple.

What Is Recovery Like?

Recovery from Avéli is relatively quick. Here’s a general timeline:

  • 24 to 48 hours: Resume everyday activities and light exercise.
  • 1 to 2 weeks: As much as possible, wear compressive clothing, such as spandex bike shorts or yoga pants, to minimize swelling and bruising.
  • 1 month: Brusing, swelling, and tenderness resolve. The final results are visible. Resume strenuous exercise.

Cellfina® vs. Avéli

Cellfina is another popular cellulite treatment that addresses the septae causing dimples. However, there are some key differences:

  • Precision: Avéli is considered more effective at clearing cellulite because the provider can verify that each fibrous band causing dimples is fully released during the procedure. With Cellfina, it’s not possible to confirm that all problematic bands have been cut.
  • Safety: Avéli is generally safer because it specifically targets the fibrous bands causing dimples, leaving surrounding collagen intact. Cellfina’s oscillating needle may unintentionally cut healthy collagen bands.
  • Incisions: Cellfina requires an incision at every dimple treated, while Avéli typically only needs one incision at the gluteal crease to treat multiple dimples.
  • Recovery: Avéli has a quicker recovery because it uses a thin probe under the skin, unlike Cellfina’s rapidly oscillating needle. This makes the Avéli procedure less traumatic to the tissue.

Other Body Contouring Treatments

While they do not specifically target cellulite, these treatments can complement your Avéli results.

  • CoolSculpting® Elite: Excellent for targeted fat reduction but not specifically designed for cellulite.
  • Sofwave™: Excels at skin tightening but doesn’t treat cellulite dimples directly.

How Much Does Avéli Cost?

The cost of Avéli varies based on the extent of treatment needed. However, considering that only one session is typically required, it can be a cost-effective solution compared to other treatments that may require multiple sessions.
