If a patient has experienced allergic contact dermatitis to an as yet unidentified allergen, patch testing is a safe and effective way to diagnose contact allergies. We recommend patch testing for patients with recurring rashes that are suspected contact-reactions.
Patch testing requires three office visits:
- On the first visit, patch tests will be applied to your back, covered with tape and left in place for 48 hours.
- The second and third visit occur over 2-4 days to determine if an allergic reaction has developed on the sites of contact.
