Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Vbeam is a non-ablative laser that produces a gentle burst of light that selectively destroys the blood vessels of vascular lesions or melanin in pigmented areas without damaging the surrounding skin and tissue. Your body resorbs the destroyed blood vessels or melanin and results in removal of the surface redness or capillaries.

  • The Vbeam laser has been in use for many years and is very popular because of its well-established safety profile and minimal side effects.

  • Prior to your Vbeam treatment, your skin will be cleansed and protective eyewear will be applied. The laser will be calibrated based on the condition being treated. Then an intense pulse of light will be sent into the skin, which may feel like a rubber band snap. There may be one or several pulses depending on the type of condition being treated. In most cases an integrated cooling mist is sprayed onto the skin immediately before the laser pulse, which reduces discomfort associated with the treatment. If necessary, a topical anesthetic cream may also be used prior to treatment.

  • Treatment time depends on the size of the treatment area. For example, a small spot may take 5 minutes and a full facial vessel treatment may take 20 minutes.

  • The destruction of these blood vessels and/or pigment results in a reduction of the appearance of the targeted skin blemish. There is typically minimal downtime. It is normal to see some redness and mild swelling for the first 12 hours. Ice may be used to reduce this side effect. Sometimes a temporary bruise (called purpura) may occur, which can last 3-5 days.

  • Avoid the sun 4-6 weeks before and after treatment. Patients who are actively tan or sunburned will need to re-schedule their treatment session. Additionally you cannot be treated if you have a spray or artificial tan. Broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen SPF 30 or higher should be used after treatments. Post treatment guidelines will be provided at after your treatment.

  • It depends on the condition being treated but on average can take 2-5 treatments, scheduled 4-6 weeks apart.

  • Results vary from person to person and depend on many factors, like the condition being treated, or lifestyle of the patient. For example, if a patient has sunspots removed, and continues to spend time in the sun without adequate skin protection, it is likely that the sunspots will return.

  • It depends on the size of the area that is being treated and number of treatments needed. A customized cost estimate will be given to you at your consultation with one of our providers.
